SYMPHONIC MASS FOR CHOIR AND STRING ORCHESTRA
TROUBAR CLAIR collaborated with The Youth Ensemble “NOTE LIBERE” to perform Christmas Concerts in 2013 and to carry on with this collaboration in 2014 it took the challenge thrown by the conductor to perform a modern opera for choir and a string orchestra: the SUNRISE MASS by Ola Gjeilo.
As soon as the choir conductor had the chance to listen to that opera, she wrote to Ola Gjeilo, a young Norwegian composer (1978) who lives in New York and he promptly and enthusiastically answered sending necessary information required for the performance. They kept in touch to share suggestions on the performance of the Symphonic Mass.
This project has been widened to singers and musicians not belonging to the choir and the Youth Ensemble so that the choir reached the number of 50 members and the orchestra added 30 new musicians conducted masterfully by the tireless Cristina Orvieto. Since Christmas 2014 the Mass has been performed several times in the provinces of western Liguria (Bordighera, Sanremo, Imperia) and in France (Menton).
The SUNRISE MASS is a fascinating and meaningful symphonic opera, it gathers the Latin text of a catholic mass to sounds which builds special atmospheres leading the listener in a metaphoric travel between sky and earth.
The Distinguished Concert International New York (DCINY), a leading concert producer providing opportunities for singers and instrumentalists from around the world, has invited TROUBAR CLAIR to perform the SUNRISE MASS at the Carnegie Hall, with singers coming from all over the world. The event will take place on March 2016, the composer Ola Gjeilo to witness.
